Christie’s Topographical Pictures including China Trade Paintings Online auction in London runs live from 15 October to 5 November and includes pictures relating to the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australasia. The sale includes a selection of China Trade paintings, led by Tingqua’s fine watercolours of the Hong merchant’s palatial residences in Canton (Gunagzhou) to oils and drawings of life in Macao by George Chinnery, the only western artist resident on the China coast in the early 19th century. The sale spans the globe, from Pole to Pole, with places painted ranging from Garneray’s rare view of Muscat in the Gulf to Bowler’s Green Point, Cape Town, from Conrad Wise Chapman’s Valley of Mexico to John Glover’s Mills Plains, Tasmania, from Thomas Daniell’s India to Adolf von Meckel’s Point Venus, Tahiti.
The sale will be on view at our King Street location from 30 October – 3 November.
