Sale Overview

This June, Christie’s is honored to present Treasures of a Storied Manhattan Collection from one of Park Avenue’s most coveted addresses. The carefully selected collection in the pied-et-terre formerly owned by Ms. Enid Annenberg Haupt brings together highly-desirable early French furniture from the Regence by Louis Guignard from the estate of Mrs. Charles W. Engelhard; important George II open armchairs after a design by William Kent; iconic early 18th century wallpaper panels from a commission for the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Albert D. Lasker by architect David Adler and interior designer Frances Elkins; and a beautiful Charles II Japanese mother-of-pearl inset Namban lacquer and silvered cabinet-on-stand, formerly in the collection of Edward Hudson, the creator of Country Life, a true historical fountain of archives on the English country home. The interplay of science and art is also on display by way of a Regency ormolu and patinated bronze mantel clock in the form of a rhinoceros, by Thomas Weeks, early 19th century, which graces the pages of Country Life depicted in Dodington Park. These works of art on highlight are complemented by beautiful Qing dynasty famille rose and yellow-glazed porcelains, a Kangxi period Coromandel screen, European 19th/20th century porcelain, 19th century silver, and 20th/21st centuries works of art.
