Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
In good overall condition. Traces of apparently inactive, historic woodworm. Both with remnants of paint to underside suggesting that they were previously painted. They have both probably been recaned and the present caning is in good order. The 20th century leather is a little worn to both, notably moreso to the earlier chair, where the piping has worn through to the edge of the cushion. There is a repaired break to the right-hand arm of the neoclassical chair, there are also old repairs to the joints and the approx. lower 9 cm of the legs has been very competently replaced. Old pin-holes to the outside of the arms to the chair suggesting that the caned panels might have been (later) backed with leather or fabric which has been subsequently removed. The rococo chair is of slightly more substantial construction with little evidence of repair to the frame, the lower part of the feet a little bleached from damp floors/the floor it was standing ob being washed. Overall minor knocks, chips, scratches and wear consistent with age and use. In generally good decorative and structural condition and ready to use.
