Sale Overview
As rapid change is sweeping over the globe, we are stepping into a new world that challenges the ways of our past, particularly our need for the material. How is our present shaping the future? What will our legacy be? How will future generations look at our present? Echoing these collective reflections, the thought-provoking works of renown multidisciplinary contemporary artist Daniel Arsham are relevant now more than ever.
It is an honour for Christie’s to present this single-artist online sale dedicated to Daniel Arsham. In our collaborative effort to support and provide financial aid for art students who have been adversely affected by this crisis, Daniel Arsham himself will generously donate a unique creation and gift the proceeds to The Cooper Union School of Art, where he graduated in 2003. The donated work is a twin set of Pink Quartz and Blue Calcite Eroded Rolling Stone Magazines, an homage to the iconic Rock ‘n’ Roll publication that has shaped three generations of global pop culture. This sale further showcases editioned works from the Future Relic series, the Crystal Relic series, his newest collaborative works with DIOR, Pokemon, Rimowa and more.
Born in 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, Daniel Arsham is based in New York city. Blurring the lines between past, present and future, his eroded artefacts unearthed in the fictional year 3020 pose the unsettling yet necessary question in all of us: what do we want to leave behind?
