Lot Essay
Balancing themes such as reality and imagination, Matthias Weischer has become a well-known figure in the New Leipzig School of artists. His paintings take on an almost sculptural quality to them as thick impasto is carved into, painted over and chiseled back again. In the present lot, Weischer masterfully fills each panel with different shades of blues, suggesting how the natural landscape changes almost every second.
