Sale Overview
Located at the heart of St. James’s, this collection reflects the diverse interests of the couple whose passion for quality and craftsmanship brought together works of art from a broad range of cultural influences and geographies, made in a variety of different media. At its core is a group of Old Master paintings and European decorative arts from the 18th and 19th centuries, including a pair of Italian temple capricci, a beautiful pair of North Italian neoclassical marquetry commodes and a rare pair of Italian glazed busts of Roman emperors. In addition to its classical European focus there are groups of beautiful objects from around the world: Russian works of art including an Imperial malachite table and a glittering Fabergé silver table service; precious lacquer ware, bronzes and ceramics from Japan; a Maori nephrite ceremonial blade; a languid bronze panther by the South African sculptor Dylan Lewis; and bronzes from China. Together these paintings, objects and works of art formed a glamorous, colourful and comfortable home.
Christie’s is honoured to offer these works of art for sale on behalf of the collectors.
